Every traveler has a purpose. It may be a story that you want to write. It may be a story you are told. It may be a memory you want to live. It may be a dream you want to fulfill. It may be a curiosity you want to satisfy. It may really be just about finding yourself after all.
Surprisingly, we felt disappointed when we got off the bus that let us off in Warsaw's City Centre. Too many big modern buildings, shopping centres and apartment buildings. It wasn't quite what we expected when we planned our on-a-whim visit. We really wanted to experience the old town feel and get to know a little bit about the history, without all the modern crap, especially because we were only there for 3 days. But as we neared our hostel, we could really see that we were going to get exactly what we hoped for. We stayed at Hostel Krokodyl, which was conveniently located right where we wanted to be. It's the first hostel to be situated on the right side of the Vistula River, in Warsaw's Prague district. Prague is a new heart of Warsaw, a place where modern culture and old tradition meet. Only here can you truly feel the ambiance of Warsaw's history. Teaching abroad has become a viable career option not only for seasoned teachers looking to expand their career horizon, but also with new university graduates who are interested in exploring the world after college. Whether you are a fully certified teacher in your home country, or you just received your BA in [insert major], there is a teaching abroad opportunity out there for you. But why teach abroad? Here are our top 4 reasons for accepting a teaching position overseas: 5 days and 6 nights was our trip to Oktoberfest! Not too long, nor to short. Unlike most who go to Munich during Oktoberfest and hit the beer tents every night, we decided to use this time to see whole city. Well, as much as we can from being hung over after night before. But nothing a good Bratwurst and another stein first thing in the morning can’t settle. Oktoberfest, to me, is definitely one of the best festivals I have ever attended and would do it again in a heart beat. It is a beer festival as you probably already know, and is about 16-18 days long held annually running from late September to early October. Oktoberfest is held all across Germany, heck it's all over the world!. But the most famous one takes place in Munich, Germany. Have you ever wondered why Oktoberfest is nicknamed "Wies'n"? While camping we met a local on the camp ground who not only shared his BBQ with us so we could cook our dinners, but also explained much about Germany and Oktoberfest to us. The story is that on October, 12th, 1810 Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, who was later crowned King Ludwig I, wanted his people to share in the celebration of his marriage to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen - Ludwig organized a horse race and invited all the people of Munich. There was a BBQ and ample amounts of beer and music. It wasn't until 1818 when the first carousel and two swings were set up as part of the festivities. Visitors were able to quench their thirst at small beer stands and in 1896 the beer stands were replaced by the first beer tents and halls set up by the landlords with the backing of the breweries. As times went on, the small tents and halls have been replaced with giant brewery-sponsored beer halls that can hold up to at least 5,000 people apiece. During my last London Trip in winter 2010, my wife and I enjoyed a wide range of new and exciting
adventures. London welcomes thousands of visitors from all parts of the world during every winter- it may be very chilly and harsh, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have an amazing time. Whether you are there during the holiday season or in early January, London will surprise you with plenty of unique things to do. Here are some of my recommendations for spending winter in London. |
