We met in high school and started dating junior year. We split up in college and remained friends for four years and got together senior year. We moved to DC to start work.
For two years Dave worked as a business analyst at a financial services company, while Vicky was an accountant in Washington DC. We’ve had a love of travel ever since we were young, and have been going on trips together since high school.
After about a year of work we decided we wanted to do some long term traveling – vacations weren’t enough. So we started planning our trip, and set off in September 2013 to Japan.

We have visited Niagara Falls (always on the Canadian side of course) a countless number of times. It just never seems to get boring. Every few years we would jump in to the car and head our way down there. There is always something new and it always nice to see the incredible 173 foot drop from the top of the falls.
Travelling the world isn't just something that you do for the fun and the experience, well that's a lot of it, but what some people might not realize is that it can also give you the experience necessary to help further your career and set you apart from others.
This may be easier for some job fields than others, but there is always a job opportunity somewhere for someone. Let's say your a chef (like Chris) and you travel, but while travelling you try to get involved in cooking classes, learning recipes from locals and eating different dishes belonging to that culture - you will gain nothing but new skill sets and experience that will look great on a resume.
2. What is your number one fear when it comes to traveling?
Ben - Spiders, the bigger the body to leg ratio, the more they give me the willies. Eisbach - Most popular "river surfing" spot in Europe We had no idea this existed until we accidentally stumbled upon it. Eisbach is a small man-made river in Munich that runs through the English Garden, Munich's largest public park. The surf wave is located at the southern edge of the park, next to the Haus der Kunst. Engineers laid three rows of concrete blocks along the canal bottom to weaken the flow of water surging up from underground to create a fast but surfable standing wave that has become the most popular “river-surfing” spot in Europe. The wave is about 1 meter high and 12 meters wide. This wave however is not suitable for beginner surfers. The flow-breaking rocks that are set into the concrete of the riverbed are invisible, but highly dangerous. It is fun to stand on the side-lines and watch all the surfers take their turns and attempt to stay atop their boards for as long as possible. So you're planning your first Round the World trip and you're wondering roughly how much this trip is going to cost you, right? Well you've come to the right place, because we are here to tell you that you don't have to break the bank to go on a RTW trip.
Our upcoming 6 month trip for 2 (including flights and everything) is budgeted at $7500. Can't believe it? Well it's happening. Our next blog post will talk about how we are managing that. This blog is going to focus on your pre-trip expenses. It's hard to put them in order of importance because they're all pretty damn important, you don't really want to leave without any of them. It's also hard to put a price tag on them because every country has different prices, but we'll try. 1. Who are you? Tell us about who you are personally, away from your blog. Hi, we’re Ellen and Justin! We’re a married couple currently living and working outside of Tianjin, China. Although we do love to travel together, it is definitely not our life. We both enjoy our work, too. Justin is a mechanical engineer whose hobby is robotics, and I’m a social worker by training who has worked in the field of public policy advocacy for the past seven years. We moved to China at the end of last summer for Justin’s job with plans to stay through Spring 2014. It was at that time that I launched my own content marketing business (http://www.XenithCreative.com) so I could continue working while we were in China. Outside of work and travel, we enjoy hiking together, mostly in New England, where we live when we’re back in the States. 2. What is the focus of your blog? What niche does your blog offer and what is your favourite thing to blog about? Our blog focuses on helping people like ourselves, working professionals, find ways to make the most of their limited vacation time. When we’re back in the States, we only have a few weeks for vacation each year, so we focus on taking one overseas trip each year and then we try to take advantage of three-day weekends to take some longer hiking trips. So our blog focuses on helping people find creative ways to optimize their free time to travel (http://thetimecrunchedtraveler.com/2012/10/16/how-we-find-time-to-travel-and-how-you-can-too/) without feeling like they have to quit their jobs and liquidate their assets in order to do so. We find that so many blogs are published by people who travel full-time and for us, that’s just an unrealistic lifestyle. Even if we could do it, we actually don’t really want to. So we gear our site toward people who, like us, want the best of both worlds. Travelling impacts your entire life, but you won't know until it's said and done. While travelling, most of us are in a travel mind frame where our main concern is travelling, getting to the next place, learning something new and where you're going to sleep that night. You don't feel the huge impact that travel has until you get home and reflect on the time, the experiences and the people you met. We would love to hear some of your reflections and learned life lessons. In the meantime, here are some things that we learned:
1. Who are you? Tell us about who you are personally, away from your blog. Our names are Jenna and Micah--we met in high school and will have been married 5 years this summer. We love adventurous activities and being outdoors. Some of our favorite activities are kayaking, hiking, camping and exploring new cities. When at home, we love to hang with friends and entertain. Micah is a full time photographer and videographer, and I (Jenna) work in wholesale insurance by day and create travel inspired jewelry and blog by night. 2. What is the focus of your blog? What niche does your blog offer and what is your favourite thing to blog about? Jenna is the voice behind the blog, while Micah takes the photos and videos. The focus of our blog is to help people realize how much you can travel with limited time and a limited budget--our goal is to inspire others to get out there and explore the world and live the life they have always wanted. I have just over two weeks of vacation per year, but we take as many vacations as we can fit in and use weekends to their full potential. I also love to find fun and unexpected activities in my own back yard--if you are open to new experiences, you can do more than you ever imagined. 3. What made you want to travel and blog about your experiences? I’ve always loved to travel and recently rediscovered my passion for writing--it just seemed like the perfect fit. Also, I wanted to create a resource for people to see how we travel and what we do; I always have people asking me about our travels, so starting a blog seemed like a great way to share our experiences. Before leaving for our big trip, I had many mixed emotions. Happiness, nervousness, sadness, excitement, anxiousness...the list went on. I didn't know what to think, what to expect or what to do. Could I really survive 6 months away from my home, my family, my stuff, with just one backpack, my partner in crime, and no definite plans?
