Let me start off by saying that Vang Vieng is beautiful and not what everybody makes it out to seem. It's surrounded by massive limestone cliffs, beautiful flowing streams and rivers, and rice paddies as far as the eye can see. There are caves, rock climbing, waterfalls, lagoons and, of course, river tubing.
Vientiane is the largest city and capital of Laos. Being the administrative capital during the French ruling you will see a lot of French culture in Laos. A lot of French travellers and too many French café's & guest houses for our liking. A city where you can still find some cheap street food, but also an expensive 5 euro bowl of soup. Many backpackers say it is a city to be skipped, but we beg to differ. There is still a lot of culture and traditions to be learned in this city, all of which you can see from it French roots. However from a tourist point of view, it can be a little stressful. It's not too cheap for backpackers to keep busy, but if you have some money to relax & drink an espresso every day then you'll be just fine. The main attraction in Vientiane, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site's, would be the Buddha park. It is an amazing site to see, something not to be missed as it is an unforgettable view. A few days in Vientiane is long enough. This was another great city choice for our Bamba Experience Tour route.
